Registering a Birth

Ceredigion County Council – Registering a Birth

It is a legal requirement that you register the birth of your baby within 6 weeks of the event.

Registration is a straightforward process and is free of charge.

If the child was born in the Cardiganshire North registration district he or she will be registered at the Aberystwyth office, if the child was born in the Cardiganshire Central registration district then he or she will be registered at the Lampeter office and if the child was born in the Cardiganshire South registration district then he or she will be registered at the Cardigan office.

If you can’t attend at the relevant office, you can give the details to any register office in England or Wales and they will send the information to the correct office for processing. Likewise, babies born outside Ceredigion can be registered by declaration by us and we will send the details on to the district where the baby was born.
