Childminders are self-employed professional day carers who work in their own homes to provide care and learning opportunities for other people’s children, in a family setting. A childminder must be registered with the CSSIW, and he/she and any other adults (aged 16+) in their home are given a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Childminders are usually registered to look after up to 3 children under 5yrs and 3 children aged 5-8yrs, including their own. They may also look after older children up to the age of 14.

Childminder Support Networks

Joining a Childminding support network gives childminders the opportunity to meet other childminders in the area.  This gives them the chance to work with others and get the support to promote the business.  Being part of a support network is a good way of keeping up to date on vacancies.  Childminders can inform each other of vacancies and let families know at the same time.

Ceredigion has six Support Network Groups which meet on a regular basis:

If you would like more information about one of these network groups contact the Ceredigion Family Information Service on 01545 574 187 for more information.
