What is a short break?

  • * A short break is a nationally recognised term for a range of breaks for carers of disabled children
  • * A short break  enables carers to take a break from their caring responsibilities
  • * A short break in differing ways,  should meet a range of needs by offering daytime and overnight care either in the child’s home or away from the home and may include leisure activities
  • * A short break  should include activities which are available during the day, in the evenings, at weekends and during school   holidays
  • * A short break need will be assessed
  • * A short break will allow carers to have the opportunity to undertake education, training, regular leisure activities and /or day to day tasks
  • * A short break will enable carers to have the opportunity to meet the needs of other children in the family
  • * A short break must always be age/culture appropriate
