Are you passionate about giving children the best start in life and would like a career that fits in with your family commitments? Becoming a childminder could be an ideal job choice.

A recent Childcare Sufficiency Assessment undertaken by Ceredigion County Council has highlighted the need for more childminders across the county. As a result, the Council is holding a briefing session on Wednesday 12 April 2017 at 10am in Felin-fach Professional Education Centre on the Theatr Campus, to share more information about the role.

The briefing session will be your first step to becoming a childminder, and will provide you with an outline of the whole registration process, an overview of appropriate legislation and details of the support and training available.

Once you’ve attended a briefing session, and if you feel this is the career for you, you will be required to complete pre-registration training called ‘Understand how to set up a home-based childcare service.’

Emma Poole is Childcare and Training Coordinator for Ceredigion County Council, and says: “As a registered childminder you are your own boss, you can work from your own home and also choose the hours you work and the service you provide. You can care for your own children at the same time, if you have a family. It’s such a rewarding career and we would love to see or speak to those who are interested in this as a career choice.”

Once you have successfully completed the training, you will be required to register with Care Social Standards Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW).  More information is available on the Family Information Service website http://fis.ceredigion.gov.uk/hom/childcare/becoming-a-childminder/

The next Childminding course arranged by Ceredigion County Council is starting on Wednesday 26 April. You will have needed to attend a briefing session prior to starting the Childminding course.
